Fashion in Brunei

There doesn't seem to be any kind of fashion in Brunei at all. There are some shops that sell OK-ish clothes but most of them aren't all that great. It was while we were at one of the huge malls called The Mall (!!) we came across a brand called Ego Man and we could not believe the stuff they sold there- in particular their T-shirts. The one below especially made us laugh.

Others included 'I love alcohol' (in a dry country!) and 'Will you sleep with me?' I think the youth of Brunei are on the verge of a rebellion............

Dragon Fruit

This looked amazing and we thought we'd try it. Didn't taste all that nice- like kiwi fruit but nowhere near enough juicy or sweet. But I only bought it cus the pink was just beautiful. I told Zaheer to take a few 'artisitic' shots of this before I cut it and not only did he manage to dull the colours, he made the fruit look a like a bloated dead pink fish! Not impressed...........

The Yacht Club

This is another group that expats can join when they move to Brunei. Since both Zaheer and me aren’t really interested in sailing or boats I don't think we would be joining this but after seeing the most amazing island we may change our minds!

(The Yacht Club)

We went to have a look around and there was also a family barbeque on an island which they call ‘the Spit’. It was a 15 minute boat ride form the Yacht club to the island and once we arrived we felt were in heaven! We thought Tungku Beach was beautiful but this was just something else. The water was crystal clear- I had never seen anything like it.

(Yusuf looking the part with his ultra cool glasses)

(The Spit- this is also the exact moment Zaheer got burnt to a crisp- read below)

(Crystal clear!)

(Yusuf having fun)

(Also zaheer is gonna kill me for writing this but he wanted to get an even tan so he stood in the sun for ages soaking up the rays. The next morning he literally looked like a lobster and couldn’t put a shirt on. I tried getting a picture for the blog but he wasn’t having any of it. Made me laugh for a good 10 minutes anyways!)

Tour of the Water Village/Proboscis monkeys

This again arranged by the school and was a tour for the partners and children of the teachers at JIS (Jerudong International School). The boat ride consisted of a tour of the water village and also to see if we could spot any proboscis monkeys. It was a beautiful day and the boat ride was just amazing. I really wasn’t expecting to see anything to be honest and really was just enjoying the boat ride. But we pulled up and saw about 4 monkeys in the trees! I was gob smacked! I tried to take pictures but the stupid camera kept dying on me. I think it was due to the humidity but I got a few blurry shots. I also got to see a monitor lizard and we thought we saw a crocodile but it did look very much like a floating log so I wasn’t too sure!
